I had high hopes for this product but unfortunately it straightened out and so did my hair after using it. I was intrigued by the addition of kaolin clay as I have straight thin greasy hair that I comb back and typically kaolin gives me the matte texture and volume I need. While this product delivered the promised "grainy" texture, it is sorely lacking in hold, as it describes itself as a high hold, maximum control product, that's simply not true. I had no control over my hair and it fell out on the sides no matter how much product I applied. Even with a pre-styler, this product just didn't work. The smell is pleasant - malty and subtle - and the consistency is pleasant, being creamy and fairly easy to apply. So 3 stars if you are looking for a decent toning product that will add texture to your hair with minimal hold. After trying this product I tried O'Doud's Matte Paste which is much better and not much more expensive.
