Review on Swann BNC Coaxial Cable for Security Camera CCTV System - UL Certified, Fire Resistant, 100ft by Tony Conlon

The extension requires an MM adapter for video. Why?

I needed 130 feet of coaxial cable between my house and my shed. Since the additional cameras (#7 and #8) on the DVR8-4580V came with 60 foot coax cable, I decided to add a 100 foot extension vise, throw away two 60's and two custom 130 foot cables too to buy. As you'd expect, the power cord came with MF ends for a good, solid connection. For some reason the video BNC came with the FF along with an MM adapter to connect the two parts and get to 160ft. There are no problems with power and video transmission over this distance, but the video connection was very unreliable and I had to go to great lengths with tape to keep the connection tight. I wish the BNC video extension cable came with MF too, as did the power supply. Note: The previous reviewer stated that the performance couldn't be that great and needed to power the camera. My original 6 camera system came with two power supplies: 4-1 and 2-1. Everything worked fine with the included 60ft cables. My two additional cameras (8 total) came with 1-1 adapters that provided power over 160 feet with no issues. I suspect that if you try to get this far with a 4-1 adapter, or maybe even a 2-1 adapter, you might run into problems due to the attenuation, as a previous reviewer reported. To be fair, Swann tech support advised me in advance to buy custom cables with an extension so they are aware of the issues. But basically, I couldn't just throw away two 60-foot cables and then spend the extra money on two replacement cables. Looking back, I should have! But the system with all 8 cameras worked well for 6 months after the first 6 cameras were in use for over a year. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Great inexpensive system but you can make the connections tighter depending on your application. BTW, Swann's tech support was great!
