After taking thousands of photos of my 2 year old and my newborn with HP, I finally gave up. None of the shots had "moments" or "expressions" that I was trying to capture. I always photographed their backs, or their sideways glances, or xxx. Anything but what I wanted. Then the image quality was never quite right, unless I was shooting in broad daylight. Finally decided to go broke. After extensive research on the Canon XTi and Nikon, I finally decided on Canon. I bought it along with the EF 50mm portrait lens which seems to be well appreciated by many. Later I bought an EF 28-105mm. After receiving the camera, I went into town to photograph my children. What I found: Pros: - Fast. Very fast. Wow. I haven't missed it yet. - Great photo. Photos of EF28-105 are good. Photos with EF 50mm are excellent. Many look like they were taken by a pro. Believe me. I'm not a profi. I'm a working mom looking for good photos to post on my website and send to my grandparents. On average, I earned a 1 out of 20 with my aiming and shooting. Now of course averaging 5-6 out of 10 on a higher bar. - Versatility. I can play around with different Canon settings and lenses. fun but expensive. The battery charges quickly. Excellent battery life. Honestly I don't think I've had to charge the batteries but I have 2-3 times since I bought them 5 months ago and took thousands of photos. - 4GB SD card stores more photos than I ever wanted. minuses. If you're a working mom like me and just need a great camera to take great photos, you've found it. There's one major downside though: it's more, much more than point-and-shoot. It's not easy to drop your bag and go for a walk. I left it at that because I just didn't want to lug it around with my diaper bag, baby and infant carrier, snacks, toys, bottles, tissues, etc. The bag is quite heavy. But these photos are priceless as far as I'm concerned and I will donate more often than not and I'll be glad I did. LENSES. It took me longer to figure out which camera to buy. I searched for a month before I settled. Given the availability and reviews of the 50mm lens, I decided to skip the kit lens. To be honest, I regretted it at first. The!? No zoom. As you can imagine, I'm a serious amateur and didn't know what I was getting myself into. But despite the fact that I once wanted to take a group photo where I had to step to the other side of the house for them to enter, I try to get a good close-up of my kids 99% of the time. .many standard photos at this age tend to be close-ups. There's also a subtle difference between the shots I took with this lens and the 28-105 โ sharper, cleaner and extremely beautiful colors. 28-105 is actually quite good, especially when used with a hood. The magnification is what I need at ball games and ballerina concerts when I don't have to worry about lugging around a diaper bag and keeping an eye on a climbing/crawling baby. For the price I think it's doable. Here it is, Revane shopping for mom. I hope this review was helpful. I found a lot of semi-professional reviews so it took me a while to go through them all!
