My mother is tiny but her knees were very swollen which made walking very painful. I bought them to hold the pressure but not full compression because then her ankles would swell. I bought it medium and she loved it but found the top with elastic was too compressive over time so cut the strap off. with scissors. Now she finds them very comfortable. Her hips were on the border between medium and large, so I chose medium for more compression. Now they fit her very well and she wears them every day. Because their legs aren't very fleshy, they might be too narrow for a person with very large hips that narrow to a small knee. She had the opposite problem, thinner thighs and calves, but her knees swelled up badly during the day. She also really liked that they kept her knees warm. Joint pain is a real problem for older people, so this helps her a lot. Make sure you measure your hips and the size you order is based on that. Guessing the correct size could mean they are too tight or too loose for you. Above is a size chart. Hope that helps!
