I fluffed it up when it arrived. Yes, it comes compressed but minimally fluffy and takes shape. The back is slightly higher than the front so she can look at it and still lie in it. I wouldn't call it a donut, more like a boat. My cat loves to be everywhere I go and at night she has slept at the foot of my bed. I put it on a nearby dresser and without any encouragement or introduction, she started sleeping in it the first night. She doesn't use it during the day because we're not in the bedroom during the day. Every night she curls up in it and sleeps there. My cat is black and the color of the bed I bought is dark so I don't usually see her in it but when I got up at night to open or close the window I was surprised to feel how she slept blissfully in it. . Pay attention to size recommendations. I started ordering the smallest size for my little kitten but saw the next size up, 50cm, recommended for pets, cats or dogs up to 9 pounds. My cat barely weighs 10 pounds and is perfect for a 50cm size. I haven't had them long enough to wash them, but for $15 I could just order a new one when the time comes. It should last a long time on my cat as she only uses it at night, doesn't scratch or dig in it, just sleeps in it. I am very happy with it and amazed at how she found it herself and got straight to the point without persuasion.
