I received my set yesterday. It was well packaged, sent in 2 boxes, which is nice because the harness is heavy. I didn't have to lug around a whole set of dishes for 8 people. It looks like each box has the same thing, half in one, half in the other. I've only opened one box so far to figure out what to do with my old mismatched set and washed all new ones in the dishwasher right away. Yes, each item says Dishwasher and Microwave Safe on the bottom, which was one of the things I requested of my new set. It has 8 Big Lip dinner plates, 8 Big Lip salad plates, 8 beautiful deep bowls and 8 Good Feeling. solid coffee cups. The high rims on the plates look nice but the main reason I like them is that any sauce or liquid stays inside rather than spilling out in transit. I would say the lip has a 70 degree angle and can be half an inch high. They don't have that flat, progressively longer edge that most cymbals have. I suppose that makes them look more modern, if that makes sense. They are heavy but not too heavy and easy to handle. I used to hold cymbals so heavy they looked weird and others so light they could have been a homemade frisbee. In my opinion, this is the weight of "Goldilocks". Bowls are my favorite thing. The pretty bowls we used hold 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid if you're careful not to spill. The bowls that came with this new set are deep! If you eat soup often or like cereal and milk, you'll love the deep. An ice cream sundae for two people even fits in these bowls. The pieces look beautiful, there are no cracks or weird spots in the glaze that haven't dried or dried properly. They are completely covered in paint/glaze except for the bottom ring which touches the surface of the table giving it a texture that prevents it from sliding on the surface. The only downside I see is something I had to think hard about to come to a conclusion: That textured ring at the base can scratch uncoated tables. If you inherited an antique table from your grandmother or one that scratches easily, buy placemats or use a glass tablecloth or table protector. They're heavy enough to stay in place during normal use, but be careful when children are walking around the table with plates. Kids will always find a way to rip, scratch, or rip anything, no matter what it is. I don't mind, just an opinion for those who might run into this potential problem. Also, many plates or bowls etc. will have some texture anyway, but as it is "porcelain stoneware" the texture may be more pronounced due to its durability. Durability is good! The plate retains heat after the piece comes out of the microwave or dishwasher drying cycle. I've had good experiences with porcelain stoneware in the past, so it's no big deal if that happens. Allow to cool or use an oven mitt after microwave cooking. I like that the food stays slightly warm on a plate or in a bowl and the lips look thin enough to cool, while the thicker base should prevent the food from cooling too quickly. So I'm guessing that's a positive with a potential negative if that makes sense. I think that's all I can talk about other than the parts look good and the blue paint/glaze is fairly uniform and has a hard feel which I like. . They don't shine like many glazed items, which I like. The finish appears to withstand microwave or dishwasher heat without fine cracks in the glaze or final coat of paint. They are durable, useful, attractive, well colored and just plain well made. I'll update this later after putting the pieces in the microwave and dishwasher a few times. If I don't update that then everything is fine and I haven't had any problems.
