They have a Velcro strap at the top to keep the shoe in place, while the outsole wraps just enough for added durability and toe protection. I tried another cheaper brand and they weren't as good as this one. It costs a few dollars more. I will be buying more paints to allow them to dry between uses. I do water aerobics twice a day. I have wide feet, the sock was enough and the rest of the shoe was perfect. Excellent stretch. I wear width 8.5 and this women's size fits me perfectly. Removable insole to keep you dry.
