I think other people will also be using these to build a pedal lathe (spindle rotation only) so thought I'd post my experience. The straps seem strong enough for quite a long time of use. I use these, connected to the included metal hooks, to operate an old Montgomery Ward wood lathe mounted on a traditional pedal lathe frame. The hooks actually hold up well in this app, which I really wasn't expecting, which is a pleasant surprise. I expected to have to sew the ribbons together. The leather itself offers good grip. Again I was pleasantly surprised. I have it turn in a simple groove cut into a wooden flywheel and drive a metal pulley on a lathe. I replaced the 3L V-belt with this and it goes very well with this pulley. I had to stretch it a bit with my hands, use it for a while and then unhook it and trim it back to length after it loosened up. It requires good tension and shows no signs of falling apart anytime soon. Overall I'm happy with it and would recommend it for building a modest pedal lathe.
