Requires strong flash feedback to detect and trigger

Works fairly well with my Canon G7X Mk II but seems to require very strong feedback from the built in flash to be detected and triggered - it just doesn't work. works well in a larger area. I have a Canon HF-DC2 flash which performs much better under the same conditions. I was hoping to use a Canon 270EX II flash with it but it didn't work.
