We got this for the cats we often adopt as we didn't want to share toys between our house cats and guest cats. Like pretty much every cat toy I've ever used, it will be very much up to the cat to see any benefit. In terms of sheer functionality, this product worked exactly as advertised for us. There are multiple pressure points on the mat that make them burn and they are randomly placed. The battery has a very long service life. It's lightweight, so expect it to be moved around a lot. Our problem was with the cats themselves. I've found that kittens can range from mildly amused to obsessed. It's harder for them to get it to burn, I suspect this is due to their own ease and not a product flaw. They jump on it, sleep on it, hide under it, and store toys under it. I've had less success with older cats. You can play with it a bit but lose interest pretty quickly. They don't seem overly concerned with how much activity it takes to keep it going.
