I was a bit afraid they would look cheap or tasteless but everyone loves them. There were small problems during assembly. It just seemed a lot harder than it should have been because some things didn't quite add up, but I did. I recommend using your own hex tools as the one provided won't quite fit. It's hard to explain, but when you sit on them, they don't feel like they look. You don't sink into it, but it's comfortably firm. The velvet is so soft. An hour after they were installed, my little dog climbed onto them and tried to dig a hole in them. There are very small permanent scratches but they really aren't visible. I pointed this out to a few people but they didn't notice. If you have pets that scratch, be careful.
