Review on SRRB Direct Side Pin G4 Bi-Pin LED Replacement Bulb for RV, Camper, Trailer, 5th Wheel, Marine Boat - 3W, Warm White by Chad Moser

A big improvement over the old halogens!

I bought eight of these 2w natural white LED bulbs to replace the original 20w halogen bulbs in my RV dome lights. The LED light is a nice, bright, neutral white - it doesn't have the cold, blue, dim light you get from a cool white fluorescent light. The LEDs hardly heat up, their light is easier on the eye when reading and the colors appear more precise. The halogen bulbs were MUCH more yellow, used significantly more power, and got uncomfortably hot. 2W LEDs are much cheaper than 3W LEDs. I was wondering if it was worth spending the extra $$ on 3 watt bulbs, but decided to go the cheaper route. Now that I've seen the two watt light output, I'm happy with my choice. I could have gone with 3 watt bulbs if I needed intense, focused task lighting, but I think 2 watt bulbs are fine for general lighting. The only difficulty with these bulbs is their installation in fixtures. There are two reasons for this: The pins of these lamps are slightly longer than those of older halogen lamps. The bulbs themselves are also longer and slightly thicker than halogen bulbs. These factors make it difficult to accurately align the LED's pins with their socket so that the pins can snap into place. A few reviewers mentioned removing the rear reflector in the light to make room for the LEDs. This is definitely an option to consider, especially for those with big fingers. I kept that in mind as an option, but found I didn't need to take that extra step. It took about 2-4 minutes to remove the glass dome, clean the glass, remove the halogen, install the LED and swap out the glass for each light. A tip: when installing the LED, hold the bottom flat surface of the bulb. (the face with all the square, gold LEDs on it) as horizontal as possible. If you hold the bulb at an angle to the horizontal, the pins will also be at an angle and that won't work very well. Another tip: You don't have to press hard when installing these bulbs. Think how little force it takes to put an old halogen bulb in a socket. The LED bulbs snap into place just as easily. if you have the pins in the right place. Brutal strength and impatience won't help here - agility and endurance will help you go farther and faster. Power outlet. Insert the tips of the pins into these tiny holes, and then adjust the lightbulb until its bottom is as level as possible. If you are very lucky, the pins will fit into the socket right away. If not (and I wasn't), then gently push the pins into the holes, wiggling and vibrating the bulb until the pins finally fit into the socket. A little soft swearing can also help. The results are worth the effort. Much luck!
