Review on Hydroluxe 1433 Showerhead Stainless All Chrome by Marcus Zimmerly

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Best value for money, reliable product

First of all. Ignore every review you've ever read on Revain for a shower head in THIS price range that starts with . "Looks great, but it's only plastic." This is a direct indication that the person considering these products is wrong. In this price range there are exactly ZERO hand showers made of metal. I repeat: ZERO. If you want metal, be prepared to spend 3x to 4x that amount. If you're not willing to spend that much, don't complain that your product isn't metal. Adding "it's not metal" as a bug is just an unfair criticism. Metal at this price point is a pipe dream and you should skip any review that starts with this lament. Yes, everything (except the handheld shower hose) in this shower combo is plastic, but it's a toughened composite plastic. and is one of the most durable shower heads I've found in this price range, easily comparable to the MOEN I had (which cost more). The vacuum metal chrome finish still feels solid, but only time and wear will tell how it holds up. As mentioned, the hose that connects the controller to the valve is actually metal and that automatically makes it better than the more expensive MOEN I had which had a plastic sleeve on the hose. Installation was easy and no tools were required. By using the included washers and plumber's tape (use tape ONLY on the shower pipe) my installation was 100% leak free. Be sure to tighten the valve on the shower pipe as firmly as possible so that it does not move when you press the on/off button or pick up the hand control. Run some hot water through the valve if that doesn't turn it all the way into position. However, do not overtighten or the valve may break. It's not as difficult as it seems. just use common sense. Suggestion: If you have medium or low water pressure: Remove the flow control (easy to remove with a small flathead screwdriver) from BOTH the fixed head and the portable. Then use them individually (turning both on at the same time with the switch gives mediocre results if the water pressure is not correct). ONLY the handset and leave it in the fixed showerhead. I have good water pressure and have found that the fixed head produces TOO HIGH water pressure when the flow regulator is removed. So you can also use both heads at the same time. With no flow control in the fixed head, turning both on will give you more flow from the fixed head and moderate or weak flow from the handheld. This is because water seeks the path of least resistance, not a design flaw. More water flows out of the fixed head because it is closest to the valve. By keeping the flow control in a fixed head, I solved this imbalance problem. If you plan to only use one head at a time, I would recommend the same. I've found that the solid head creates TOO MUCH pressure without a flow control valve, but again it all depends on your individual water pressure and your personal sense of how strong the water pressure is. just as they say, "your results may vary". Despite the "Pause" mode, I really like the different modes these heads offer. You have the standard powerful rain shower (regular shower), the smaller flow for those with high water pressure or who care about the environment (not for me), the massage function (I recommend using only one shower head to get maximum use of this mode print output), the aforementioned pause mode (useless in my opinion, when I want to pause I just turn off the water) and a really cool mist mode that even blows a bit when on (this mode would be GREAT to use in the cold season and when coughing). All of these modes are available on both the portable and fixed head, although I found the switch on the fixed head to be difficult to move without rotating the entire head. Because of this, you need two hands to change modes on a fixed head. A person with back and neck problems will benefit from having and using both heads at the same time. I can send a jet to my back and another to my neck and get hydrotherapy for both at the same time. Very happy with this purchase. I've compared it to a few other Revain products in this price range and it beats them all. It also outperforms ANY head in this price range (or double this price range) you'll find in an HD or Lowes. If you're realistic about what product you're getting at this price point, this head combo won't disappoint. I'm reserving four stars for the rigidity of the fixed head pulley (if I could, I'd give it 4.5 stars) and a fifth star to inquire about the durability of this product. I will update this review over time and add this 5th star if this thing holds up for me.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Tape
