Review on 🍢 Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle with AUTOSPOUT - Coleman Switch by Chuck Hernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The vent seal causes straw problems. Read on for an easy fix.

first of all i bought 4 of these bottles and i really like them. They're durable and the water always stays cold, albeit not out in black that long for obvious reasons. I have three regular spouts which I prefer and one with a straw spout which is comfortable when driving. As many people have mentioned, the straw has issues and seems to suck in air and is difficult to get out. Some resort to cutting the straw at an angle. Trimming the straw can help if the straw hits the ground, but I doubt that's the problem in many cases. The real problem for me, and I suspect the most, is the small black piece of rubber on the underside of the lid (circled in the picture). This allows air to enter the bottle when you suck the water out, preventing a vacuum. I'm not exactly sure why it seems like you're getting blisters when it's stuck, but when you pull the rubber piece off it works a lot better. Just grab something pointed to pick up the edge and brush under and around it with a toothbrush or similar. DO NOT REMOVE! I just did it to investigate and managed to get it back, but it was difficult and most people won't be able to do it. It's easy to check if this is your problem. Simply unscrew the cap about a quarter turn to allow air to enter through the cap threads. If it works fine, check the ventilation. If you think the straw is touching the ground, remove the straw and try. If it works at all without straw, then that might be your problem, but I doubt it is. To ensure air is not escaping through the straw, with the lid off, place your finger on the underside of the straw and see if you can draw air out of the mouthpiece. If you can't, your straw is properly sealed. I think this particular straw design will always gurgle a bit, but it shouldn't be that bad if the vent is working properly.
