I bought this to protect my cat's tummy area (who likes to sit on my lap for an hour or two a day) as she is just coming off iodine 131 returned, radioactive element, treatment of hyperthyroidism. I don't need to measure how much radiation I'm exposed to anyway, so I bought it to give me the full protection I wanted. 0.5mm lead is enough to stop 131 I emissions.
