First of all potential buyers should note that this product is not intended to illuminate a room. Not even a small room. So if you're buying it for this reason, go ahead. This fixture is really more about adding a touch of light. One potential use that immediately springs to mind is as a night light, either by the bed or perhaps just outside the bathroom door to show the way in a dark bedroom. However, I use it in my office. At work, I'm half surrounded by three large, glowing computer screens, and I've plugged this light into one of the USB ports as an extra light if for some reason I don't want to turn on the overhead lights. The remote works fine for me, but you can also tap it on top of the light to make it light up. It cycles through multiple colors from blue to violet to red to orange to green (not in that order). However, I usually keep it in plain white light. There are also 1, 2, 4 and 6 hour timers and the option to blink or fade. The base of this lantern is slightly larger than a soda can, so it fits anywhere. All in all a good little extra light. I personally think it was worth it for my purposes.
