There are many reports that these cables are not suitable for Nintendo 3DS. I ordered a pair and then I read these reviews and started getting concerned, especially after I found out that this item was non-refundable for some reason. I can't find anything that clearly says why, but Revain (after ordering) means it's non-refundable. I have found that it works with my 3DS under certain circumstances. In my experience, this only fully charges the 3DS. Once the device is fully charged the charging indicator will flash and when the system is open/active it will not show as connected. It is best used when the 3DS is in standby mode for charging. Thats OK for me. It's a short cable (3ft long) and doesn't offer much range to play with when plugged in anyway. Only one base station is required to charge items via USB. For that, this will work [for me].
