I finally got the chance to install this device and I have to say I'm impressed with the video quality. In the delivery state, the NVR recognizes the cameras. The cable installation is no joke, but it's worth it for the quality and security it offers. Dear hobbyists, this is how I handled this project: if you decide to buy this device, please do your best to read what the device can and can't do on the REOLINK website. PRE-INSTALLATION: 1. After unpacking, I recommend testing the entire device to make sure everything is working and you are still within the return period if you don't like the product.2. Pay attention to the model number of NVR and cameras.3. Go to REOLINK support page and update the firmware on the NVR first! Then each individual camera via the NVR interface. A step-by-step guide is available on the REOLINKs.4 support page. OPTIONAL: If you are planning to upgrade your storage, this is also the perfect time to do so.5. Take care of your settings like admin account and pw. Then set the device aside for later installation.6. Plan your cabling to and from your planned NVR location! INSTALLATION: 1. Initiate and complete pre-planned cable installations. The supplied CAT5 cables are suitable for this device. I recommend CAT6 cables (not included) if using longer cables. Also, complete all cables with 2 to 3 feet of slack at the end points before installing the cameras.2. Connect the cables to the NVR device and power it on.3. OPTIONAL: I suggest getting 6 to 8 (or more) 4" waterproof round boxes with lids at your local hardware store. This will minimize the number and size of holes you will be drilling in the wall of your home. Install cameras at endpoints. If you use round boxes, you can pre-assemble the cameras on the lids and then install them. Before moving on to the next camera, have someone view the live feed to adjust camera angles, etc. I used Google Duo video chat with a partner to make things easier. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5.7. Once all cameras are installed, wait until night for outdoor cameras for further setup. For example, whitewashing due to IR illumination from the camera.8. Take at least 2 days to watch the recording and solve problems with lighting, shadows, etc.9. Fine tuning can be done through the NVR.10 interface. If you are happy with the result, then your project was a success! Congratulations! REMARKS. I use my device as a standalone system with local backup. All network notices can be obtained from REOLINK website, along with manuals for firmware update without network connection.
