I love this butter dish and its packaging. I'll talk about packaging later. I was really surprised by the excellent quality of this butter dish. It could be used on a table to be distributed to allow each person to take the oil they need and allow those patrons to take as much as they want. It's quite heavy, though, and if loaded with an extra pound of softened butter, it might end up on the floor. In this case, it gets smashed, and all the greasy butter is scattered everywhere. No, this butter dish really deserves a place. Use in the kitchen and when cooking or preparing a delicious dessert. And just for fun, I think it deserves the best butter available, ie Irish or other European butters that contain more butterfat than American dairy. Yummmm! If softened butter isn't refrigerated, it's much easier to get a more accurate amount, making the food taste much better. But whatever you do, don't put oleo sticks in this dish or you'll be having nightmares every night for the next 10 years. Just kidding, of course, and back to the rating. The bamboo wood board (I think) has a silicone sleeve that completely encloses the bottom of the top to protect the sealed oil from ants, mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and other small pests that get too greasy from the oil or worse find large cockroaches inside the oil when the top is opened. The silicone gasket works very well and can be removed for cleaning as it will definitely get some oil on it the first time you apply it as four packs of oil will make a large whole pound of oil even after dabbing with a spatula. . This will keep the butter from going rancid for the next year or so, especially if you don't refrigerate the butter in this bowl. It is perfectly safe to keep the oil out of the fridge if using daily. The bowl is dishwasher safe, but I wouldn't put a wooden countertop in the dishwasher. Speaking of the top, there is a cut-out storage space on the top to store the included cream-handled shaker. I've seen others use this utensil or similar to store small batches of veggies like cherry tomatoes 🍅. Well, if you do, at least have the decency to turn the plate over so the word "butter" is hidden on the other side. I know you will love this butter plate as much as I do and it would make a wonderful gift. When you order it comes very nicely packaged in a box made of very soft styrofoam like material which is more like styrofoam but not. You don't have to worry about it arriving broken since the manufacturers packed it so tightly and carefully. If you give it away, you don't have to open it first to see if it's broken. It's not going to happen unless it's used as a baseball in a game and someone like the Houston Astros' Jordan Alvarez or the Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Otani where one of those two superhuman thugs smashed it out of the park. All I can say is that this butter dish should be in your kitchen and would make a wonderful gift. Highly recommended.
