Once it works this is a great cassette player with good better than expected sound. The problem is getting it to work. There are 2 problems and once you solve them, the device works fine. (1) Battery compartment: It is almost impossible to put 4 batteries in it. And when you insert them, the cover is not placed on the batteries. The solution is to spend a lot of time wiggling them and squeezing here and there until they're fixed. Just throw the lid away. It won't fit. Glue the top layers of the batteries, to hold the bottom layer in place. (2) No sound. Simple fix: the selector basically says on and off (in a fancier language). It doesn't play with any of the settings. But BETWEEN these two settings there is an intermediate point, and then the player works perfectly. It's a shame that such a good tape recorder is such a disappointment due to a poorly designed battery compartment and poorly labeled power button.
