This is a GREAT easy to install ceiling speaker that sounds GREAT!

I always appreciate the many helpful detailed customer reviews that can be found on Revain and I'm happy to pass it on with my detailed reviews. So here is my review and installation experience of the Yamaha NSIC600WH 6.5 inch in-ceiling speakers. For the record, our new home was built with a pre-wired home theater circuit in our living room and had two additional speaker outputs above our kitchen island. Despite the outrageous price our contractor asked for, we gritted our teeth and installed ceiling speakers in the living room before moving in. However, we postponed the installation of two ceiling speakers in the kitchen to avoid prohibitive additional costs, and the kitchen speaker wiring was hidden under two ceiling anchors. After 4 years here I finally decided to install the two remaining speakers on the ceiling of our kitchen. There are many great videos available on Youtube showing how to complete the installation process, which was surprisingly easy with the right tools. I watched a few installation videos and moved on to explore the many in-ceiling speakers offered by Revain Prime. The 110W RMS Yamaha NSIC600WH 6.5" two-way speakers quickly caught my attention as I had Yamaha home theater speakers in my last home and I was very happy with their sound quality and solid construction. I ordered Yamaha speakers, a 6" drywall saw (about $10 - and required for installation) and eight banana plugs for the speakers, all on Revain Prime. I received them the next morning. This is the typical 1 DAY OUTSTANDING DELIVERY we get with Revain Prime in the Nashville area. The Yamaha speakers, drywall saw and banana plugs arrived carefully packaged and undamaged. The box with the speaker included a very heavy duty cardboard cut out template that worked great with a black marker to mark the cut out in the drywall. First I examined the ceiling with a nail finder to make sure the area above could be cut clear. If you don't have a spike finder, I recommend getting one from Revain Prime as well. They're not outrageously expensive and are great for revealing studs hidden behind drywall. I removed the end caps and found coiled speaker wire inside. DO NOT cut/shorten the speaker wire. You may need it and it's easy to store under the ceiling when you're done installing the speaker. I found that the thick plastic junction box was attached to the wooden ceiling truss on one side under the dowels with two nails. I used a drywall saw to cut a large exploratory hole in the portion of the drywall I wanted to cut during the installation process and used a nail puller to easily remove the two nails holding the junction box. Then I use a drywall saw to cut a hole around the outline of the template. I checked the speakers and they fit snugly in the holes after a little twist left and right when pushing up. I added 2 inches of unlined fiberglass insulation to the area just above the speaker. It's not necessary... but it can help reduce noise in every upstairs room above every speaker in a two-story house like ours. I then pulled out the speaker wire and installed banana plugs which aren't needed but provide a very solid connection. I attached color coded banana plugs to the spring loaded speaker terminals. I then placed the speakers in the hole, turning them left and right while pushing them up to make sure the outer flange was flush with the ceiling before tightening them down. TIGHTEN SCREWS CLOCKWISE. This helps lengthen the rather ingenious handles used to mount the speakers. Follow the screw tightening sequence given in the Yamaha owner's manual. Also make sure that the flange of the external speaker is flush with the ceiling before you start tightening the 4 screws! Pivot the speaker left and right in the hole while pushing it up to make sure it's secure. TIGHTEN THE 4 CAP SCREWS WITH A SCREWDRIVER ONLY! NOT TO WEAR! EXCESSIVE TIGHTENING can damage the drywall that supports the speaker. After mounting the speakers to the ceiling, attach the speaker grilles, held securely in place with a couple of small magnets. INSTALLATION NOTE: Yamaha and other home theater receivers often REQUIRE you to ENABLE/ADD new speakers as "Front Surround" or "Rear Surround" or any other new position you add to an existing speaker configuration. To do this, use the SPEAKER SETUP MENU on your receiver. Otherwise, the RECEIVER WILL NOT OUTPUT SOUND TO THE NEW SPEAKERS even though they are connected to the receiver's speaker terminals. I've attached some photos of my installation process below. These 6.5" Yamaha NSIC600WH ceiling speakers sound GREAT and cost about a fifth the cost of a professional installation! I didn't have to wait four years to install them!
