I'm a guy with very long hair who works outside and gets dirty most of the time. My hair is tied in a bun most of the time and this helps keep most of the dirt and debris out of my hair and my hair doesn't get tangled in rose bushes and the like. Also helps keep my bun in place while I work (it's so heavy it often falls out when I'm digging or something). Definitely not something to keep you warm but rather makes you cooler because it wicks sweat and cools you down which is good for me in the summer. But the good thing is that I don't have to grow my hair out every day, which isn't a good thing anyway.
