Review on 🌊 Experience Luxury with VIKINGS BLADE Black Ocean: Foaming Shaving Cream, Surfactant-based by Deejay Cowan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Didn't lift the weave or add enough smoothness to my DE Razor

or other base), razor used, skin type and fragrance preference, beard thickness and more. For reference, I've found that grease-based soaps produce smoother shaving creams than glycerine-based soaps. My water has 185 mg/l (very hard water). I usually shave with a straight razor or straight razor when I'm in a hurry, but for the last month I've been using a Rockwell 6C which gives a third pass BBS shave with no nicks or shave marks when using #4 base. I have dry skin, prefer non-floral scents and have fast growing barbed wire facial hair (in the military I would have to shave a second time if I had a night check and had used Gillette Super Adjustable 109 at level 7 for over 30 years). I used Viking's Black Ocean shaving cream five times before giving up and would have given less if I knew it was glycerine based. I usually try to use shaving cream for a full week before jumping to conclusions as it can take a few tries to get the right amount of water to create the smooth lather required, and then you'll want those results a few times repeat before drawing. They are the final conclusions. The first day I mixed it too thick (not enough water) which resulted in some pretty bad razor burn, the likes of which I haven't had in years. It was so bad I thought I might be having a reaction to something in the soap as well as not enough water. The shave left a lot of stubble and bright red patches of skin on my face. The next day I took a break and switched to Mitchell's Wool Fat (a tallow and lanolin based shaving soap) along with a new DE blade and managed a 3rd pass BBS shave with no skin irritation. Satisfied that it was just a razor burn caused by the water to cream ratio (and possibly dulling the DE blade), I continued using the VBO shaving cream for another four days with unsatisfactory results. much water that it dripped from my face), stubble remained a problem after the 3rd pass - the cream just didn't lift the hair like my other shaving soaps. I also noticed that the cream felt and looked like I was using a foaming hand wash with a bath pump rather than an actual shaving soap/cream. The sink filled with slightly bubbling suds as I tried to rinse the razor between runs (much like liquid dish soap washing dishes in the kitchen sink). The lack of foam when shaving or the soapy sink were not a problem for me, but the lack of suppleness of the soap was counterproductive for a shave without irritation. I'm guessing that's why my razor wasn't able to lift the mustache to effectively shave my face (at least that's not a problem with the 10 other shaving soaps I currently have). I also found that I had to work three times as hard to wash off any residue on my shaving brushes (I wash the synthetic and badger brushes between shaves) and my hands were dry/clean and not slippery/slippery like my other shaving soaps. while washing. I work this result into the glycerin base of the shaving soap. In the end, it reminded me to stick with oil-based shaving soaps. This soap may suit people with softer water, oily skin, using cartridge razors or who like glycerine based soaps (*all of these are NOT for me). Unfortunately, I could not find any positive properties with this soap, as it is completely untrue. In hindsight, it was no better than any other glycerine-based soap I've tried over the years. I can't pinpoint the smell either - the best description I can give is that it wasn't strong and didn't smell like anything oceanic. It wasn't terrible or anything, nor was it floral in any way β€” it reminded me of soaps that claim to be odorless if you just sense the inevitable ingredients in the soap base. Again this is a very subjective review and I am leaning towards a fat based soap as I have yet to find a glycerine based shaving soap that offers both smoothness and does not leave the face dry when shaved clean with both razor and DE razor. YMMV.
