Metal parts rub but otherwise solid
The 2 D-rings you hook with the carabiner rub 4 times a day from hooking/unhooking and are looking rusty now but it's just the plating that's changing peeling/fading (this is clearly not stainless steel). Otherwise, the outer coating helps the hooks stay in place, and it helps me control my 95-pound Dane Greyhound, who gets overzealous when catching certain scents. Bought another one on this site that fell apart; It costs twice as much but seems to hold up well. The plastic clasp is a little tricky to close, but once in place it's secure. I removed one of the links and it could be done with pliers.
