There appear to be two versions of this product. I unknowingly bought a version with gray rubber rubbing surfaces in contact with the phone. In my case the windshield was uncomfortable so I used gray (permanent) 3m foam tape for the mount. Hard as a brick. The mount itself is very modest and unobtrusive. I am very picky about these things and am very happy with this product. It keeps our phones safe and offers a wide range of customization. In use, it is practically not noticeable at all. Empty, unremarkable, clunky and most importantly ugly on the dashboard of my wife's car. It also does not block or interfere with the use of the sun visor/sunshade. I would be concerned about the possibility of color fading as one reviewer mentioned, so given the choice I would go with the gray rubber block. If I couldn't find it, I just ripped off the red elastic and glued it to the black liner. In the photo, the bracket is in the unlocked position as the tape is still attached. In the closed position it sits flush. The tape is removable and leaves nothing permanent. You just have to clean the surface properly before applying it, and it will stay in place until you remove it. I've been using it daily for two months now. No problem and she is very satisfied.
