Why do hotels not need space and hang pillowcases under pillowcases? Nothing prevents all the nasties from getting into the hotel pillow, and you think that a coating of a thickness is hygienic? We bought them for travel during CoVid 2020 - put them on top of our own pillows or hotel pillows: it's not something I want to sleep every night but for a hotel stay - no problem. They are quite soft - zipper. Reminds us a bit that we have an extra layer of protection. Unfortunately - 2 times when we put them on the pillow the zipper broke. It's been over 30 days since the order was placed so I guess we'll have to find another item if the seller doesn't replace it.
