Bathroom scales cost half as much. Yes it works. The assembly (without instructions) is easy. Insert two AAA batteries (included) into the battery compartment below. Connect the two parts of the platform together even if they are not perfectly aligned. Insert them into the hole in the bottom of the scale. Then catch your pet (the tricky part) and put them on for a weigh-in. There is an on/off switch that automatically shuts off after a minute or two. There is a button to change the measurement from kilograms to pounds and ounces. When testing different feed packages, the weight shown on the scale is always 1.5 to 2.5 ounces higher. I assume this is the platform you put your pet on to weigh them. The manufacturer may have adjusted the total weight for this or noted this weight deviation on the packaging for the user. Definitely I would rate it higher if it was half the price and if it came with assembly instructions and an actual weight of less than 1.5-2.5 ounces.
