I had a medium sized bag that could hold everything imaginable, but it was too big and too heavy. I switched to a small one which is lighter but really too small. I have almost everything but it's crowded and hard to find anything. The inner pockets are well made, but the middle ones are so big that things fall out of the pockets. Everything stays in its place on a small scale, but there is nowhere to rummage. In addition, the external cup holder is also small. The bottle needs to be quite narrow, and since the bag is tightly packed, it's difficult to get in and out of. A size between medium and small would be perfect. Bags tend to ride around my neck, which is uncomfortable, but I like having my hands free. If you don't mind the weight, medium is better unless you're really carrying a lot. If you want your hands free and don't need a lot of weight then this is fine.
