They look very nice and not too shiny, that's exactly what we were looking for. We used them to hang lights and decorations Used on cubic furniture around the home and they perfectly match the thickness of the cube (even over most side tables). They have a thick mantel, I doubt they will work. Also, you have enough space to hang them properly. We ended up using them upside down for flair and they work well either way.
