I bought this for my dad for Christmas so not sure about the battery life but I set it up for him and read the manual and can say that it is easy to use considering that it has many options and functions. The manual isn't complicated (although it's quite thick, which can be intimidating at first) and easy to understand. Accessing the recorder's functions is easy and various parameters can be easily changed via an extensive menu. If you can operate the functions of your mobile phone, you can use this recorder. Not the smallest I've seen, but it easily fits in your pocket unnoticed if you're looking for it.
