This item is great for needlework. It's big enough for my little one and I to sit in with all the supplies and crafts, but it easily folds or folds away so it doesn't get in the way. The walls are high enough to catch splashes, and it doesn't move like a tarp if you wiggle while seated (inevitable with toddler crafts). It's waterproof so it catches spills and wipes clean easily. Honestly? This is amazing stuff and I highly recommend using it for crafting, although you can use it to hold sensory containers like a sandpit, ball pit, or pool. This item is super versatile. And unlike inflatable pools, this one is much quicker to set up and take down, and there's no constant risk of sharp ends or jumping kids ruining it.
