Great replacement for repairing our JBL speakers - good quality and great Price. tweeters built into it. Unfortunately, through use and some abuse, the tweeter membranes were damaged and no longer functioned. I'm searching the Internet for speaker repair information on YouTube and it describes how to diagnose a tweeter cone failure. After testing I found that (3) out of (4) JBL speakers had this issue and we had to fix them all. Additional investigation and discussion with a loudspeaker specialist revealed that these diaphragms were designed using ferrofluid to cool the voice coils to prevent them from being damaged if pushed too hard. This can happen when the feedback is unexpected and the tweeters are overloaded. The purchase of Ferrofluid was also made from Revain for the high-quality repair of loudspeakers. Depending on the JBL speaker model, your repair may differ from my repair. Basically, we removed the front grille and mounting screws. The handle bracket is loose, including the connection panel. I removed the tweeter and disconnected the +/- wires. After removing the tweeter, we removed the plastic horn from the main body of the tweeter. Then I removed the tweeter membrane. Looking closely at the tweeter's main magnet where the coil is seated, we noticed a dark brown coating which is a clear sign that the tweeter is clipping. We removed the brown residue and then carefully added a few drops of ferrofluid to the cavity. Reinstall the new replacement tweeter cone, attach with the original screws and disassemble in reverse order to recover the speaker. We ran a test tone through the speaker and were happy to hear it was working again. The sound was crisp and clear, just like it was with the tweeter running when we first bought the JBL speakers. I have to say that we could buy more expensive replacement membranes or complete tweeter units but at the cost of 30-45 minutes. Working on each speaker, we were able to fix all (3) faulty speakers and get them working again.
