I tried to connect the controller to a small USB cable every time it needed to be charged. It's a hassle and just not practical so I ended up with this as a simple charger that works great. Literally just pop it into the slot and a little "red" controller will appear and tell you it's charging. This happens when it turns green. I used to have a stand alone controller charger but it broke on a play stop shortly after purchase so I was a bit hesitant to buy it at first as I had flashbacks of the previous one. The difference is that you have to connect the charging sensor directly to the controller and then just plug it into the charging pad and you're done.
