Great first quadcopter with horrible instructions

If you're looking for an entry-level quadcopter that's feature-packed but cheap and durable enough to withstand a few falls, then the UDI U818A is it for her. exactly in the right place. Once you get used to the controls (more on that in the next paragraph), maneuvering becomes fluid, predictable, and undramatic. The range is excellent, and while the camera isn't professional, it's good enough for clips and social media photos. If this is your first drone please read this guide: http://uavcoach.com/how-to-fly-a-quadcopter-guide/ The instructions that come with this device are complete nonsense, most likely the result of bad online translation. The link I posted explains what stick controllers do better than the actual documentation that comes with the product, so read it. There is also a lot of useful information about training and safety. Because the instructions are so poor (or simply because most people don't read the instructions), the two key features of this drone often go undocumented. In fact, some YouTube reviewers refer to the right shoulder button as the "light button" because it toggles the light on and off. In fact, this button toggles "headless mode," and here's how it works: launch the drone on the ground so it's facing away from you, and toggle "headless mode" on. Now moving forward will always steer the ship in that direction, and moving backward will always bring it back to you, even if you rotate it with the left stick. This is very useful when you are having trouble figuring out which direction the ship is pointing in the air. As long as you start looking away from you and not turning around, up always means away from you, down always toward you, and left and right always means left and right. You can focus on getting the car where you want and pointing the camera where you want without worrying about directional compensation. The second important feature is "Return Home". This is only available if you have headless mode enabled. I didn't have much time to play around with this feature, but when I turned it on, it popped into my head again. I suspect it does some sort of "repeat" of its flight to compensate for ground coverage on the x and y axes. I doubt this feature is smart enough to bring the drone home after someone launched it from the Visibility area. Overall this is a very good quadcopter for a beginner/student. The plastic casing makes it fairly vulnerable to light winds and adds a bit of extra weight, but it's certainly a good idea for a first-time flying machine. The transmitter is clunky and ugly and will take a few flights before you know what all the buttons and beeps mean, but for the price I can only grumble. I'm calling Produktstar because of the lousy instructions. It is not possible to learn how to operate this product by following instructions alone, which can lead to some situations that are at least costly and at worst dangerous. If you are considering this as a gift please follow the link I posted above and give yourself a few hours to study and practice before attempting to navigate the area over Christmas.
