Review on Wi-Fi Enabled Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Digital Camera by Candra ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am satisfied with the product, it is made well, the price is also pleasing.

I myself have been shooting with DSLRs for a long time, but I wanted a camera that can be put into the pocket of a ski jacket, or stuffed into an aquabox for underwater shooting. Impression: 1. This is not a DSLR :) Even the brutal rings on the lens are not at all for manual control of the focal length or aperture. They can be configured for this, but the lens will still be controlled by motors. Pure marketing ploy :( 2. Overloaded with functions and unnecessary control buttons. - it is commendable that there is a separate control for turning on the camera for shooting and turning it on for viewing (the lens does not extend). Also separate from each other is the shutter button and the video start button. - but who came up with "on WiFi" right under the thumb?! WiFi has never worked for me. There would be Bluetooth - at least I adapted the selfie stick for a monopod. Or GPS would be better inserted . - for a man's hand, the buttons are too close to each other. Always afraid to hurt. Treated by buying a vintage leather wardrobe trunk; - I rarely use the touch screen - only to poke a finger on the focus object. In other cases (such as urgently throwing up the camera and quickly shooting an elusive plot), it only knocks down the settings if you accidentally touch it. 3. Does not know how to remotely control external flashes in eTTL mode (neither by IR, nor by its own flash). Only from the shoe or by wire. And this seems to be a simple function that could be in the firmware. 4. Attention! It has different modifications for East and West. Differs in the sizes of capture (Grip). Therefore, before buying accessories (cases, aqua boxes, etc.), find out the features of your model. Conclusion. Not a bad camera. But it seems that marketers have stuffed fashionable features and beautiful details into it, instead of really needed ones. Recommendation: if you don't have any special reasons (like me) - add a small amount and buy a DSLR ;)

Pros
  • In terms of image quality, it can compete with "DSLRs", but they are much more compact. Fast and accurate autofocus. Large sensitive matrix with good dynamic range. Lots of creative modes.
Cons
  • Overloaded with optional features and decorative controls.
