I think these lights are for special needs and I'm not sure if camping is one of them. Let's talk about the pros. Pro: The flashlight is universal. You can hold it on top or side, or hang it on a hook. I like that the light turns on automatically when driving out. I also like the magnetic base. I have a feeling that magnets can come in handy when working in a garage or in a tight space in a basement. Again, flashlights can be used for a variety of functions. Cons: The light is BRIGHT! I don't know the lumen count as it's not listed on the packaging. But the light is bright. I use camping lights and the amount of light they put out is way too bright for a camping situation. I prefer soft lighting that complements a campfire or softly illuminates the interior of a tent. I also like flashlights with different light intensity. This flashlight is either on full power or off. The plastic on the lantern doesn't seem durable. However, this makes the flashlight shine. Overall, I would not use this lantern for camping. However, I would keep a flashlight in my emergency bag, one in my garage for working in dark corners, one in the basement, and one as a spare flashlight.
