Review on Bundaloo Large Cat Window Perch Seat: Removable Washable Cover for Maximum Comfort by Kristin Anderson

Nice roost but the included mounting hardware is sorely lacking

Cats love to inspect their property and this window roost is a great way to satisfy that instinct. While this particular model represents an evolution of the unstable, unpredictable, and frankly unattractive suction cup system, the included mounting hardware is woefully inadequate for the task. I recommend not using the velcro system at all. This is only effective if the cat is keeping its weight directly on the Velcro. If the cat's weight is on the opposite edge, it will inevitably tear the Velcro or cause the adhesive to detach from the sill. It is best not to even remove the backing from the Velcro, so as not to damage the paintwork when the tape is removed from the windowsill. The included mounting hardware is a pair of #12 3/4" pan head screws and drywall anchors. The instruction manual says to drill a pilot hole with a 1/4" drill bit. This resulted in the pilot hole being too large for drywall anchors, allowing for significant slippage with even the slightest weight load. A 5kg cat that has jumped onto the shelf will easily pull the shelf out of its bracket. Most standard designs in the United States have the wooden jamb of the window frame located directly below the drywall. To compensate for the insufficient hardware, I used a #10 2" countersunk screw to penetrate the drywall and attach it directly to the stud. This gave me a much more stable and even surface. The problem with this method is that the holes in the shelf are recessed on the underside, preventing the screw heads from fully aligning with the surface of the shelf. However, the pillow covers it. The pad is easy to clean with a cat hair roller, but the cover is difficult to remove and cannot be machine washed. If the cat urinates or belches on the pad, it needs a quick cleaning with small green clippers before it has a chance to gain a foothold. I recommend treating urine stains with Nature's Miracle Odor Removal Spray when spot cleaning urine stains to get rid of the ammonia smell (note: Nature's Miracle does not sponsor or compensate me). The padding itself is not washable but can be replaced with 1 and 1/4 inch thick foam if it gets dirty, but the foam will need to be trimmed. With these modifications I found this to be a good way to give my cat a chance to look out the window without damaging the blinds by trying to pry them away from the window.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • May cause injury
