Review on SOLOCOTE Spring Sleeve Dresses Collar Girls' Clothing by Troy Caldwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well-made and cute dress; I think it's not cotton but a 40/60 cotton/poly blend.

i love this dress It's the right weight of material and good construction. Although it's labeled 97% cotton, 3% spandex, it looks like a polyester blend and I believe it's mislabeled. So if you're concerned about getting cotton, this might not be the best option. Other than that, this is a great dress and what you see is what you get. I have the color "light blue checked". Looks a little darker in reality than in the photo. I bought it because it seemed to be the lightest color available and I try to buy light colored clothes for my kids so they are more visible at night. The dress is definitely a bit darker than it appears in the product photos, but even in the photos it looks so dark that it's not easy to see at night, so no big deal. A dress. Some other reviews have complained that it's too thin. These reviews are wrong. This is normal and the material is absolutely the right weight. That's the weight of a man's shirt, and I think that's a good weight for a dress. It's strong enough but not too thick to be hot. Dress without lining. The fabric is not translucent at all and basically the density of the fabric is ideal. The way the dress is made and tailored is fine. Hems are made where the fabric is folded twice and then sewn in place so that there are no exposed fabric edges. This is great because I got this for a 2 year old (almost 3) and they can pick things up so I love that the ledge never has a slack rope to pull on. The same goes for the edges of the button bands and buttonholes and the collar - they are sewn on where all the edges are turned over and you never see the edge of the fabric. The long seams on the sides of the skirt and shirt, and the sides of the sleeves are sewn together and then overcast to prevent fraying. The darker border on the collar and buttons is made of dark blue fabric that is folded over, sewn into the seam and gathered. Overall it is very well made and all the details are well done. As for the cloth, I think you're lying to me. At that time and when I placed my order, the product description said "100% organic cotton" and "Main material: 98% cotton; 2% elastane." So what is it? (Also, "sheath" makes no sense - it's an unlined dress, so the entire dress is a sheath.) When I received the dress it said "98% cotton, 2% Spandex". Doesn't look like cotton. I used the doubt after a few socks and washes just in case the fabric had been treated in some way. After washing, the touch isn't cotton. It looks like a polyester blend .I would believe 60% cotton 40% polyester but I just don't believe 98% or 100% cotton. And there are two different labels in the product description so Solocote seems confused about the cotton content. The fabric of the dress has almost no stretch. When I compared it to my 3% spandex jeans I couldn't believe the dress had 3% spandex in it.No no no - if it had spandex in it it would stretch and it hasn't Stretch.. I think it's a 40/60 polyester/cotton blend and they mislabeled it. My mom felt it and thought it was a polyester blend too. She has a pretty good feel for fabrics. You and I have both sewn before. My husband also found it to be similar to polyester but it's not as good in fabrics. All these touches and sensations were after washing. Other reviews say it has shrunk a bit which is consistent with a 40/60 polyester/cotton blend. (I dry all my laundry so naturally my daughter's dress doesn't shrink.) The appearance of the dress is as expected. It's a little darker than in the photo. It has a slightly timeless classic look and a traditional school vibe. It's quite a modern look, it doesn't look like a suit and looks normal, but it also suits a traditional or vintage look. I'm a 3/4T size. The dress that arrived was marked "3/4 Y" so I received the same size as listed but slightly different wording. I got it for a 2 year old who is almost 3 and big for his age. It's definitely a 3T, and any brand's 2T will likely be undersized for it. She weighs about 31 or 32 pounds. The 3/4T sits a little loose on her which seems accurate for a 3/4T dress on a 3T girl. The fabric doesn't seem to stretch at all. So if you are about to get something, choose more. The buttons on the front are the only closure (no hidden zippers or anything to add extra room) so it's best to have some freedom of movement so you can take it off again and again. Since the button placket reaches below the waist, there is enough space to put the dress on. My daughter loves this dress and has worn it a few times. I guess that means it's comfortable and doesn't itch or anything. Overall I think the dress is a good buy. It looks good, is true to size and is very well made with reasonable weight fabric. If buying a cotton dress is important to you, skip this one. Although it is labeled as cotton, the product description is internally inconsistent as to what percent cotton it is and when I touch the actual dress it looks like a polyester blend. If I thought it was cotton I would give 5 stars.

Pros
  • My adopted daughter loved the dress. Exactly like the picture!
Cons
  • The dress may not be suitable for all weather conditions.
