I love the Swiffer concept: a pad that picks up and holds dirt and dust more easily and stronger than other cleaners. Over the years I have often used different types of Swiffer to remove dirt from floors and dust from other surfaces. So why not extend this benefit to a surface that, while often very dusty, is out of reach for most Swiffers? Enter the Swiffer ceiling fan Duster Super Extender Handle. It seems well done. It is lightweight and thoughtfully designed to be easily telescoping. Fluffy pads ("Swiffer Heavy Duty Dusters") are great for dusting the top of picture frames that are way out of reach. Also shelves and other solid surfaces that are very high. Or even the top of a ceiling fan housing. These are objects that don't move. But the dustiest part of a ceiling fan is the leading edge of the blades. I tried cleaning this edge with a Swiffer Ceiling Fan Duster Super Extender and the failure was actually weird. As easy as it is for the Swiffer to pick up dust or whatever, it requires at least minimal contact with the surface being cleaned in order to function. And yet, as soon as I tried to place the rag against the edge of the fan blade, the rag would just push the blade away - or the blade would run away from Swiffer, whichever you prefer. So I hopelessly chase blade after blade around with a rag that can never make enough contact to wipe the dust off! I believe there can be ceiling fans whose blades either lock when the fan is off. or offer some resistance when pressed. However, my hunter is not one of them! As hopeless as this device may seem for its stated purpose, it has other uses as mentioned above, plus one more. On a tiled floor with grout lines below the tile surface, the Ceiling Fan Cloth Swiffer works better than the Heavy Duty Swiffer because the extra fluffiness reaches the grout. I'll leave that to the manufacturer to clarify. Some tips. The Swiffer Heavy Duty Duster Pads themselves are really good. They take and keep a lot, but they don't last as long as one might think. If I use one of these, I keep a strong flashlight handy so I can check from time to time to make sure the pad is still picking up dust and isn't so crammed it's just scattering dust. Also, from time to time one of the fiber strips detaches from the lining. I've learned to keep an eye on this to make sure there isn't a streak of fibers left behind.
