I've been playing in bands since the Beatles and I'm retired now. My main hobby is experimenting with speakers to find speakers that can reproduce a sound close to a live performance. I like it when the treble doesn't tire and the bass is solid and strong and able to pack you a solid punch. The soft terylene tweeter sounds clear and undistorted, and the 6 1/2 inch woofer is quite powerful and only needs a small subwoofer to fill the area where leg hair vibrates. There are many good speakers in this price range such as the Elac, Wharfedale, Klipsch, Jbl etc but I find the Polks to be very comfortable to listen to with no fatigue or distortion. These aren't small speakers, but the large size delivers very solid and full-bodied performance. I'm not a big fan of home theaters, but I'm sure they will bring clarity and boom to all those explosions and car crashes. But I highly recommend them for all genres of music. Polks' many years of experience are evident in the S-Series.
