Use a utility knife to trim to size.
Before purchasing I assumed I would need a J channel that would stretches the full width of my desk. I was wrong. These smaller sections are absolutely fine. I actually cut a few sections in two with a utility knife to allow for more flexible assembly. I have a lot of cables on my desk, so it took me about 1-1/2 sets and installed two rows of J-channels one for power and the other for everything else video and USB now I can vacuum without worrying about vacuuming the wires.
