it was well made but the float even though you get two leads me to believe they won't last very long... Must include a fitting for US standard hose. A quick trip to the hardware store fixed the problem, but I had to run PVC cord from the float inlet to the brass fitting, which I had to buy to make it work! Don't think it's a big deal, cars are probably kind of an industry standard so it's designed to fit right into a water source. A lot of people complain that this thing gets dirty, of course it does. Insects love it so much they drown in it. My doggo seems to get it dirty, which says something about people who kiss their dogs unaware of the saliva, foam, and debris in the dog's mouth :) Just keep a cup nearby. Drilling holes in the ground for a drain seems like a recipe for failure. When I feed them, I just scoop up garbage, insects and the like. Otherwise, I'm sure insects are a source of healthy food. Fresh water is better than standing water. People who complain about algae in the summer should put them somewhere in the shade to minimize this problem. Use teflon tape on the threads. I used an extra float valve - the one in the photo - in my fountain/pond. Drill through the masonry and expect the putty to be made for an airtight installation. Doggie still drinks from the pond, but who am I to mess with millions of years of evolution? I have a feeling products like this were made at that time and I would recommend them to those of you who are skilled craftsmen and want professional quality. .
