Bought these for a 17 day hike to use with a tarp and bivy sack. They work well for the most part, but some are bent and one is broken. I didn't use a hammer, I used a flat rock to protect my palm and pushed it in with the strength of my hand. So I would say I was pretty gentle. The Kelty tarp I used had some similar ones about 3 inches shorter and no pull loops, but they seemed to be of much better quality and a more reasonable length. They fit and are priced right, but there's a reason they're cheaper than higher-end brands, so consider that when deciding what to buy. Shorter pins have less leverage to bend and hold just as well. I can take a hacksaw with my remaining ones (bought 2 of these 4 packs) to trim them down and hopefully prevent them from bending/breaking.
