A little history first. I bought my first lap laptop over ten years ago. I bought it from a big store under a well known brand name. Despite being an on-site employee, it lasted a few years (probably because I used it primarily on a desk to support my laptop, not as a lap table). I liked it because unlike many other desktop computers, it had a large mouse pad on each end. I often got comments from others about how cool it was. Eventually, when I became a self-employed contractor in 2014, the plastic hinges broke because I was only using it as a lap table on the back porch swing and my legs were parallel to the swing seat. Over time I've stressed the plastic hinges by lifting the table with the laptop on it by the ends and bending it in certain ways while it's on my lap. Eventually, some of the hinges broke, affecting rigidity and making my laptop less stable. So I went in search of another. They were no longer sold in big stores and I couldn't find them on the famous brand's website. I thought I found them online (can't remember the website) because the picture was of a lap table. However, when I got them, they were of a different style - they had almost no usable mouse surface. I finally found her on a website. I have had to replace my laptop three times over the years due to broken hinges. Weak hinges were the main downside, but I liked them so much I kept buying them. When the last one broke a few weeks ago I found they were no longer made which is what the model was using. I ordered this 2.0 laptop combo pack because it came with a mouse pad attachment. If you use a touchpad, you can only get a lap table. Not sure if this new model is thicker than the old one, but it certainly seems more durable, especially the hinges. I don't think I'll have a problem with them breaking anytime soon. I also like the stand for desktop use better than the old one, which was quite flimsy and kept slipping out of the case. Another thing I like compared to the old model is that this model has twelve strong anti-slip strips (8 inch) that keep your laptop safe on the table in your lap. The older model had some short (1.25β³) rectangular and round non-slip pads that worked well, but some of them fell off over time. I'll have to wait and see if the non-slip strips ever peel off with use on this model. The new model features airflow channels under the laptop to keep your laptop and lap cool. The old model also had these grooves, but four rectangular holes were cut into them. I'm not sure if this model will deliver cooling airflow as well as the old one, but so far I haven't had any heat issues. The new model is designed for laptops weighing up to 12 pounds. My laptop weighs 6 pounds and this model supports it with no issues. I think it offers better support than the old model. The LapWorks website shows a bowling ball falling on him. I can't confirm the truth, but I have no doubt he could withstand such force if the ball were thrown over him from 6 inches or even a foot. I think the old model would have broken if it was treated like that. While the lap table itself is a few inches shorter than the old model, it still has more than enough room for my 15-inch laptop. Without a mouse pad, it only has a 2 inch mouse area at each end. While they're workable, the areas of the mouse are covered in a rubberized coating of the same material as the non-slip strips, which creates too much friction for my liking. I was so glad I got the attachable mouse pad. It is very easy to turn on and off. This makes the lap table about 2 inches longer than the old model, but when folded it fits easily in my backpack - even with the mouse pad attached. I was only able to attach the mouse pad to one end because there are tabs on the other end that hold a loop for a tilt stand for desktop use. This is not a problem for left-handers - all you have to do is rotate the table on your lap. There is no coating on the mouse pad, but you are provided with a template to cut your own adhesive surface from materials found at most hardware stores. While they offer this because they say wireless mice need a light-colored surface to work most effectively (desk and mouse pad are black), I have no problem using an optical mouse on a black surface. The mouse pad attached is that you cannot lift the table with the laptop on it by the ends as the mouse pad could very well come off which would likely cause your laptop to fall to the floor. This is indicated on the packaging. I already had a tight call so I have to train myself not to do this like I always did with the old model. You just have to make sure that you hold the table itself on your lap on the side where the mouse pad is attached. Otherwise I can only say good things about this model, so I recommend it.
