I used to hate the built in plastic screen protector in old Otterbox Defender smartphone cases. The problem was that the screen protector was not attached to the phone's display as dust and sand from a separate screen protector always got between the screen protector and the display. That always happened. You can take the case apart to clean the inside of the plastic screen protector and the phone's display, which was difficult as the Otterbox Defender case is not designed to take your phone out and put it back in the case, but even if you do They' when you've gone through the subject, the dust will keep coming back. I used to peel off the plastic screen protector with a razor blade - the same has been done by everyone I know who has bought the Otterbox Defender case. The problem back then was that you had to find a screen protector that was compatible with the Otterbox Defender case as removing the screen protector left a gap between the case and the phone's display which was ugly and attracted dust and dirt. I forgot about that awful plastic screen. Protector because Otterbox stopped using it 4 or 5 years ago for the smartphone version of their Defender case. But then the Otterbox Defender case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e came along and it was back β a built-in plastic screen protector to torment me. I bought what was supposed to be a new case from the Revain warehouse, which I specifically do not recommend. As my case was already treated by a previous customer who returned it, a Revain employee who inspected it, or possibly both, the plastic screen protector was already dusty when I took the case out of the box . I spent about an hour cleaning the inside of the screen protector to finally get it ready to place my tablet in the case, but as soon as I turned on my tablet, I saw two specks of dust (which look black when they fall off under the screen protector and are illuminated by the screen) and a tiny hair. I disassembled the Otterbox Defender case which was very difficult as it cannot be opened with your device inside. When I got my tablet out, there was more dust and smudges from my attempt to get the tablet out. I then spent another 45 minutes cleaning the inside of the plastic screen protector and tablet screen, and placing the tablet back in its case. I was finally ready to use the case after spending nearly two hours removing the dust magnet from the inside of the screen protector. After switching on the tablet, neither dust nor stains were visible. I love the feel of this case without the plastic cover. The TPU case offers a very nice and comfortable grip and is much more reminiscent of the Symmetry or Prefix series smartphone cases than the Defender, but that's only true if you're using a non-hard plastic case. The outer shell is a major contributor to the tablet's weight, and while the hard plastic isn't as comfortable in the hand, you still have a solid grip, making the tablet unlikely to slip out of your hands. Without a hard outer shell, this case offers no drop protection. So if you buy this case for protection, you have to leave the case, but the case completely blocks the rear camera, so you have to remove the case as well. whenever you want to use the camera. Despite all the effort and time it took to install the case, I love the feel of handling my tablet so much that I was willing to give the Otterbox Defender case a higher star rating. Unfortunately, it only took 24 hours for two new dust particles to get between the screen protector and the display. They're only visible on a white background, but every time I use an app or game where the area under the dust turns white, it looks like there are two blobs of black ink on my display, which is already driving me insane make. Now I'm faced with a choice: return the case, which costs $75 from Revain warehouse, or cut out the plastic screen protector, which would make it impossible to return the case and create an ugly gap that would require finding a screen protector for it is compatible with the case. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but anyone considering one of these very expensive cases should be warned of what to expect - and despite many rave reviews, it got me. has happened to everyone who has used the Otterbox Defender case. for their smartphones when it still had an integrated screen protector. Shame Otterbox brought back this screen protector as without it it would be a fantastic case. Update: I removed the built-in screen protector to no avail after a long time trying to clean it again. A word of warning to anyone thinking of removing the protective film - you're better off using a very sharp exacto knife and trying to cut the protective film from the front rather than prying it out completely, which I did. .The protective film is fairly easy to remove but leaves a significant amount of stubborn adhesive residue. After two hours of using rubbing alcohol, Goo Be Gone, a razor blade, a microfiber cloth, and a slightly rougher cloth, I was still unable to remove 100% of the adhesive residue left after peeling off the protective film. Cutting the protective film off is probably the best option, and given a second chance I'd definitely try that instead. If the screen protector can be carefully removed with an exacto knife, any gaps left by fully ejecting the screen protector will also be eliminated. I plan to contact OtterBox to see if they can purchase a replacement screen protector for this case. Update: After 9 months of use my case is falling apart which is not the quality I expected from Otterbox. The bottom left corner of the outer rubber shell is loose and stretched too far past the hard shell to fit securely. If I don't hold the case carefully, the rubber sleeve will start to slip off the case. The elastic on the back that fits over the raised rectangular Otterbox logo is also loose and torn from the logo - I can feel the elastic peeling away from the logo under my fingers when holding the case. This is a surprisingly poor quality product. I think it's still under warranty, but I doubt Otterbox will honor its warranty as I bought mine from Revain at a discount, not Revain at full retail. I would definitely not recommend this case due to the combination of high price and poor durability.
