The top is not actually marble but chipboard imitating marble. Inexpensive, that's no surprise, but I'd like to clarify in case it's missed in a more detailed description. I knew it wasn't marble when I ordered the table and it didn't bother me. It was very easy to put together (took about 4 minutes) and I love that it has adjustable feet to help you level it. This is perfect for me as I put it on a natural stone floor which is uneven in nature which helps it become more stable. I have this as a plant stand in my living room because otherwise my cat will think all the plants in it are like a salad for her and it works really well for that purpose. It's strong enough to hold my tall plant but light enough that I can move it around if needed. The gold is muted and not shiny which is great. It looks good and makes a nice addition to my home decor, yet is neutral enough to suit both modern and traditional homes, depending on what you put on it.
