This memory foam ball pit is a two piece system and can be used with or without a lining underneath. The filling is so thick that you can technically use this pit not only for kids but also for pets. Our niece, who we babysit from time to time, doesn't have it easy, but she loves to play with her toys indoors. There is no strange smell or indication that it is made of cheap material. The covers are also removable, they can be washed, which we did after receiving the device π
