They are MUCH brighter than 13 watt bulbs. A lamp about ten feet high on the roof of the back porch. Once the light is on for a few minutes, the entire back porch, about 10 feet by 15 feet, is well lit. I also bought a 23w green light for one of our porch lights, and a much brighter light than the previous 13w bulb. We're using a green lightbulb as a tribute to the veterans, and now it's visible, while the 13-watt lightbulb wasn't visible. I expect this to last a long time. I always write the lantern install date with a marker so I know how long it will last. Without exception, these lamp types last longer than five years.
