Review on πŸ”₯ Craft and Create Stunning Glass Jewelry with the Microwave Kiln DIY Fusing Set by Kristen Simpson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fun and easy

The millefiori glass included in the kit is broken. When used in a creation, it will cause the finished product to crack and break. I've used it on three items already, two of them have broken in half with normal handling, the third has visible cracks so I'm sure it will break soon. Also, making your own molten glass necklace is fun and easy with this microwave oven, but it's not as easy as the list seems. Here are a few additional things you need to know before you get started: 1) The listing says "One safety glass in your traditional home microwave". There is no mention that it is NOT RECOMMENDED to use this (or any other) oven in your everyday microwave. Highly recommend having a second 1100w microwave oven due to smoke etc. 2) The instructions say it takes 6 minutes to start. If you use a 1100w microwave as recommended it may take too long. Start low and work your way up. You can always reignite a piece, you cannot reignite it. I've found that 4 minutes is a good time if I want to keep some of the different shapes, or 5 minutes if I want it all to come together. The shorter time is especially important when using dichroic glass, it loses all of its color if heated for too long. 3) The color of the supplied glasses may change during firing. The light green one I got turned light yellow when fired. What I thought was orange was actually dark red. Keep this in mind and plan your work accordingly. All in all, not a bad set for a beginner, but the useless millefiori glass and the lack of information, especially on the dedicated microwave, prevent me from giving more than 3 stars.
