The small posts are very good and reliable and I didn't have to do any extra maintenance. From previous experience with a very similar hammock bed, I already know that I will be adding heavy metal brackets to both the L-shaped dowel rods and the back base. My cats are 9-13 pounds and sometimes the more aggressive ones will climb on top of the ones in the hammock and the dowels won't hold. With the extra L-brackets, everything holds up well. Very cute back base for a hammock! I really like it and also the fabric of the hammock is very durable and supportive. My other bed, the fabric was terrible and I had to replace it. It should be good! All in all it's worth it! I only suggest an extra boost if you don't have an easy solo cat. Update: Instead of adding metal poles, I put the hammock I made out of leather on 1/2" x 2" planks since the dowels that were included were shorter than I needed. The cat that is comfortably resting in the photo weighs about 13 pounds, so it needs more space. Otherwise great build. The back panel is only attached to the drywall with the supplied dowels and screws.
